Many membrane proteins exhibit structural pseudo-symmetry. My current research project aims to engineer a membrane protein that is perfectly symmetric in sequence as well as structure. Small, stable proteins are an ideal unit towards the construction of large, stable protein complexes. Rosetta Membrane, Design, and Symmetry are being combined to computationally engineer a symmetric membrane protein. I also have interests in the wet lab as I will clone, express, and purify proteins and use CD, X-ray crystallography, and NMR Spectroscopy to experimentally verify proteins.
