In addition to promoting the use of structural biology tools to investigate biomacromolecules at atomic resolution, the CSB aims to provide students and employees with a strong scientific background in this arena. My work in the Meiler Lab involves expressing and purifying various soluble and membrane proteins from E. coli to support computational studies and analysis. Since May 2021, I have been an integral part of progressing research on three projects: 1) using fluorescence spectroscopy methods to evaluate the binding affinity of an FDA-approved ligand to a Rosetta redesigned fluorescent protein, 2) studying the effects of heterodimerization on the transmembrane domain (TMD) of EGFR and HER2 receptor tyrosine kinase family and 3) identifying dysregulated pathways by monitoring the structural instability and integrity of HIKESHI mutant proteins involved in Hikeshi Hypomyelinating Leukodystrophy. Overall, the Meiler Lab has peaked my interests in the field of structural biology and how Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is utilized to study the structure and dynamics of proteins. Additionally, I frequently utilize metal affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography purification techniques. I hope to pursue my research interests in the fields of structural biology and chemistry in graduate studies.
